Laura Grabel is the Lauren B. Dachs Chair of Science and Society and a Professor of Biology at Wesleyan University. She teaches in the areas of Development and Stem Cell Biology and team-teaches an interdisciplinary course on Reproduction in the 21st Century. Her research focuses on how embryonic stem cells become neurons, in culture and in the brain. She also does work on the ethics of stem cell research. She began taking modern dance at the age of 5 and continues to practice today. Her work with Liz Lerman and Elizabeth Johnson of the Dance Exchange has brought together two parts of her life, separate in the past, and now forever entwined.
